Cabbage Patch Kids

Cabbage Patch Kids

What a great way to capitalize on parents' fear of telling kids where they really came from!

The brilliant marketing ploy that was behind Cabbage Patch Kids' incredible success was the existence of "adoption papers" that were included with each doll. The new owner (usually a young child) would vow and promise to take care of said doll and would sign the papers accordingly. All the more reason for children to want to have their very own, unique child. These dolls flew off the shelves at record speed at the height of their popularity, and in 1984 total sales for Cabbage Patch Kids branded products, including toys, clothes and more, was reported at almost $2 billion USD.

Cabbage Patch Kids were the hottest craze in the early-to-mid 1980's when parents did whatever they could to get their hands on one of these must-have toys.
